Some Mineral Deposits May No Longer Exist in 15-20 Years: New Searches Need to Be Conducted, Papoyan

At present, there are three major issues in the sector. The first is that some mineral deposits may no longer exist in 15-20 years, hence new searches need to be conducted. This is a priority sector, and we must continue investing here to ensure it remains one of the crucial branches of the economy. This was stated by the Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan during a briefing with reporters at the "Armenian Mining Industry Forum 2025."

"The second issue is having environmental standards that meet modern conditions because it is very important for mining to not only bring economic benefits, or if it generates environmental problems, those environmental issues should be minimized as much as possible," he noted.

Speaking about the third issue, Papoyan stated that it particularly falls within the interest, study, and operational realm of the Ministry of Economy. "The third is the extension of production chains. Today we mainly export what we extract, but we have work to do with, for example, the Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine or the Amulsar mine, to eventually transition to more complex, longer production chains, producing economically more sophisticated products," added the Minister of Economy.
