Severe Penalties for Avoiding Military Drills: Parliament Passes Bill
The National Assembly has passed a bill that tightens the penalties for avoiding 25-day military drills. According to the proposal presented in the parliamentary committee on legal and public affairs, the penalty for evading military service is suggested to be increased from a period of 2-5 years to 3-6 years of imprisonment.
For avoiding drills, the fine is proposed to be raised from 20 times the minimum wage to between 15 to 30 times the minimum wage. Additionally, the penalty of up to 2 years of imprisonment is to be replaced with a term of 1 to 3 years.
