Processes for Acquiring or Terminating Armenian Citizenship to Be Implemented via New Electronic System

The processes for acquiring and terminating Armenian citizenship will be digitized. Starting from January 1, 2026, applications and scheduling will be conducted exclusively through a new electronic citizenship affairs system, as announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In order to avoid possible congestion in the scheduling system, the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs will launch a pilot version of the citizenship system on October 6, 2025, available at https://mcs-citizenship.am.

During certain stages of the process, applicants will be required to visit the Migration and Citizenship Service office once to undergo physical identification and to verify original documents.

Starting from October 6, applicants will be able to:

• Register online on the platform.
• Create, edit, and submit a preliminary application for acquiring or terminating Armenian citizenship.
• Schedule a visit to the Migration and Citizenship Service no earlier than January 22, 2026.

Citizens of the Republic of Armenia will register in the new system exclusively via the “I Am” national identification platform, which requires an identification card and an mID electronic digital signature.

Foreign citizens, individuals with refugee status, and stateless persons will register based on their preference, either through strict identification or by email verification, providing a copy of their travel document.

After submitting the preliminary application, it is necessary to make a state fee payment no later than 10 days before the chosen visit date. Failure to make the payment will result in the cancellation of the scheduled day.

On the day of visit, applicants must present the original documents listed in their application and, depending on the type of application, take a test in the Armenian language and on the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia.
