VIDEO: Aram Harutyunyan on Incident of Hitting Woman

The President of the National Accord party, Aram Harutyunyan, who was detained yesterday for allegedly inflicting bodily harm on a woman after a court session concerning former President Robert Kocharian and others, stated at a press conference today that he was provoked, resulting in him hitting the citizen.

“Immediately after the trial, when I and Sargis Avetisyan were descending the stairs, various people, both women and men, were making derogatory remarks, specifically following me, uttering, ‘Turk, Turk’ and worse words. At first, to be honest, I tried to ignore it, but when they approached and came level with me, one of them said, ‘I’ll bury you, Turk child.’ That crossed the line for me, and I hit,” he elaborated.

“That woman is one of the so-called ‘fake accounts’ of Nikol Pashinyan and Levon Ter-Petrosyan. As a woman who was hit, I feel sorry for her, but I regard this hit as directed toward Nikol Pashinyan, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, and all those who created this institute of ‘fake accounts’,” Harutyunyan added.

According to Harutyunyan, the main issue is that the police should not have allowed things to escalate to that point, as their duty is to maintain public order. He stated that today the police chief is not taking steps to uphold the dignity of the police.
