Zakharova Discusses Russia and US Positions on Ukrainian Conflict Resolution
Russia and the United States have reaffirmed the importance of a peaceful resolution to the Ukrainian conflict and the necessity of analyzing its root causes, according to Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reporting to RIA Novosti.
"The delegation led by Foreign Minister Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov has held negotiations with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in New York within the framework of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly," Zakharova stated.
According to the spokesperson, both sides unanimously recognized the connection between seeking a peaceful solution and understanding the radical causes of the current crisis.
Lavrov and Rubio met on September 24 in New York. The meeting took place during the high-level week of the UN General Assembly, which had commenced earlier. Following the meeting, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Lavrov and Rubio exchanged views on resolving the Ukrainian crisis based on the understanding reached at the Alaska summit. It was noted that the parties confirmed their mutual interest in finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
