Response from State Duma to Paris Mayor's Statements

The First Deputy Chair of the State Duma's Committee on International Affairs, Svetlana Zhurova, has assessed the statements made by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo regarding Russians at the 2024 Olympic Games. Her comments were quoted by TASS.

According to Zhurova, Hidalgo wants to ensure that no Russians attend the event in Paris. "With such statements, she is simply discrediting the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which had just announced the absence of a boycott. Despite this, the French may simply refuse to allow our athletes to enter the country, even with all permissions and documents in place. This is quite a common occurrence," she concluded.

Earlier, Hidalgo stated that Russian and Belarusian athletes would not be welcomed at the summer games. At the same time, she expressed her support for Ukrainian athletes.
