What has been done regarding school construction is a disgrace, says Minister of Education

59 schools have already been put into operation, and construction is ongoing in 259 schools. Simple math shows that this is already more than 300. In addition, we have around 60 more schools preparing for the construction process. This information was provided by Minister of Education and Science Zhanna Andreasyan during a Q&A session in the National Assembly, addressing the concerns raised by the Civil Contract faction member Eduard Aghajanyan regarding the delays in the program for building 300 schools and the low number of schools planned.

“I have said it once, and I say it again—let them be anxious; the numbers written in the Government's program will be realized. A school is not built overnight. We have gone and seen rare constructions that were built on time and have a 'school' sign posted, yet lack a gym, an assembly hall, and a cafeteria. A school building is such that it requires a major renovation every 10 years because it is unclear what quality construction materials have been used and what quality of work has been done,” the minister stated.

“Therefore, I believe that those who criticize should remain silent. It is simply shameful because what has been done with schools and in terms of construction is a disgrace, and today we are on the path to correcting all these mistakes to ensure that a school is what it actually has the infrastructure for. We should not create a situation where people think that the construction done by the state can be just anything and will pass unnoticed. Today, the most serious oversight of quality exists in this sector, and behind each number, there is also the assurance that this school building will serve for years, allowing children to learn in safe, secure, and modern conditions.

“We will have more than 300 schools, and in the coming years, we will have even more than 300,” the minister concluded, adding that the program to construct 300 schools will be completed by the end of 2026.
