Hamas Delays Response to Trump's Plan
Hamas is reportedly stalling in its response to Trump's proposed plan for resolving the Middle East conflict. According to The National, the group's leadership is unlikely to outright reject the initiative but may postpone its official response.
Negotiators close to the discussions suggest that Hamas hopes to make changes to the U.S. initiative. The group is dissatisfied with aspects of the plan that require disarmament and a cessation of weapons production facilities and the use of underground tunnels.
Instead, the movement proposes to hand over its weapons to Arab observers for security purposes. Sources indicate that the leadership is willing to allow Israel to maintain a secure border zone within Gaza but insists on the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the removal of their role in ensuring security in the area.
Hamas has also criticized the timeline of the plan, stating that certain clauses allow Israel to delay the process or even abandon it entirely.
