"I am concerned that some countries are advising their citizens not to go to Syunik" - Pashinyan
The Armenian government's plans related to Syunik have strategic significance. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a live broadcast, responding to a question from Shakhane Khachikian, a resident of Meghri, who was curious about whether there is any danger or likelihood of destabilization in the southern part of the country.
Pashinyan expressed concern that some international partners are advising their citizens against visiting the southern region of Armenia. “The Armenian government is making multi-billion investments throughout the country, particularly in Syunik. In the last five years, we have invested over 100 billion drams there,” said the Prime Minister.
He recalled that numerous subsidy projects are being implemented in Meghri, and a total of 60 educational institutions are being constructed in the Syunik region. Pashinyan mentioned that other projects are also being carried out in Syunik, including the construction of a checkpoint with EU support and the operation of the Kapan airport.
The Prime Minister emphasized that there is no need to single out the Syunik region as a vulnerable security zone, as there are security issues in the regions of Tavush, Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor, and Ararat as well. According to him, the peace agenda is aimed at solving security problems, and there is a significant international consolidation around the territorial integrity of Armenia.
