Drone Flights Registered Over Critical Infrastructure in Germany

Germany has recorded numerous drone flights over critical infrastructure. According to Bild, recent days have seen dangerous drone flights over significant sites in Schleswig-Holstein. The drones have flown over the Thyssenkrupp naval shipyard in Kiel, a university hospital, a coastal power plant, the Northeast Canal, the provincial parliament building, and the Heide oil refinery that supplies kerosene to Hamburg Airport.

According to authorities, the drones were flying in parallel routes, presumably to film and measure the infrastructure. It remains unknown who operated the drones, but similar incidents have also been reported in Denmark.

The Federal Ministry of the Interior in Germany has acknowledged the security threat and announced the establishment of a drone response center. A legislative act is being developed that would allow armed forces to shoot down drones outside military facilities.
