Stop Presenting the Turkish Border as the 'Holy Door' to Our People, Marukyan
Edmon Marukyan, the head of the Bright Armenia faction, states: 'During a meeting of the National Assembly's Permanent Committee on Regional and Eurasian Integration, Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan addressed the economic implications of reopening the Armenia-Turkey border, stating: "They have solved their problems. If we want to continue in the same manner and ultimately destroy our state, I will not allow that. By all means, I will ensure that the Armenia-Turkey border is opened, and this state develops, because what has been done with that policy has led us to this situation."
We have not perished due to the closure of the Armenia-Turkey border. On the contrary, our state has developed dynamically and continues to do so; today, according to the IMF, Armenia is among the fastest-growing economies in the European region.
What does Papoyan mean when he refers to 'this situation'? Perhaps he is actually talking about the consequences of their flawed political decisions. Overall, as a result of the recent transformations in the EAEU, Armenia has become one of the notable countries with economic growth, standing out for its economic dynamism.
Naturally, these successes are often not publicly acknowledged by the authorities since it would be difficult to convince people that we are perishing without the opening of the Turkish border. Thus, they promote a narrative suggesting that our state, our economy has been 'perishing in blockade' for 35 years—offering as the only solution to go to the most disgraceful concessions to open the border with Turkey.
If the public recognizes that our economy is actually in good condition, then the scenario of 'opening the border to avoid destruction' becomes a complete myth and a fabricated agenda. Stop constructing false theses based on myths and presenting the Turkish border as the 'holy door' to our people.'
