Iran Rejects Britain's Claims

Tehran has rejected the claims made by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Great Britain regarding Iran's rights over the Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa islands in the Persian Gulf, stated the spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, Ismail Baghaei.

“The Foreign Ministry spokesperson, refuting the baseless allegations made in the joint statement by the GCC and Great Britain regarding the three Iranian islands in the Persian Gulf, emphasized Iran's undeniable sovereignty over Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb islands... and explained that these three islands have been and will remain an inseparable part of the country's territory. The repetition of unfounded claims in political statements will not change the geographical, historical, or legal reality,” the statement said on the Foreign Ministry's official Telegram channel.

Baghaei added that the GCC countries should strive for cooperation in the Middle East, rather than draw in destabilizing extra-regional players like Great Britain.

At the end of December, Mojtaba Ghahremani, chief judge of Hormozgan province in southern Iran, announced that Iran had published a document regarding the demarcation of Abu Musa island in the Persian Gulf.

The issue of boundary determination in the Persian Gulf and the territorial ownership of the islands in its waters has arisen half a century ago. Saudi Arabia has repeatedly raised this issue.
