Unlike the US, we have defended the peaceful use of nuclear energy – Zakharova
Unlike the United States, Russia has always defended the peaceful exploration and use of nuclear energy since the advent of nuclear technologies, according to Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry.
She recalled that 80 years ago, when the international community faced the choice of whether to plunge into global wars or choose "peace, mutual respect, and international law," nuclear technology emerged.
"That was also the time when nuclear weapons were first used. The United States dropped bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, literally destroying those two cities and their civilian populations. And the world had a choice to follow this path or to use the atom for peaceful purposes," Zakharova emphasized.
