Torture Investigations Do Not Meet International Standards, Ombudsman
During an extraordinary session of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs, Armenia's Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan stated that the prevention of deaths in the Armed Forces does not meet the necessary standards. “We do not have inevitability of accountability because we do not see that those who have subjected others to ill-treatment or who have led someone to suicide or death face responsibility,” said Manasyan.
She noted that the investigation of torture and other forms of ill-treatment cases in Armenia also does not meet international standards. Manasyan emphasized that one of the crucial requirements is the immediacy of the investigation, while numerous cases remain unresolved for years.
