The Murder of Parakar Mayor Linked to February Incident in Mezavank: Police Spokesperson
According to the spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Narek Sargsyan, the current results of the preliminary investigation indicate that the murder of Parakar Mayor Volodya Grigoryan is a continuation of the incident that occurred on February 5 of this year in Mezavank. In that incident, the brother of the individual arrested was killed.
Sargsyan detailed the February incident, according to the investigation: “A dispute broke out among a group of individuals in the Mezavank community regarding reckless driving and failing to greet each other. The altercation escalated into a brawl, during which shots were fired. 29-year-old Grigor Ohanian sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and died. A criminal case was launched concerning that incident; charges were brought against more than ten individuals, and there were arrests and detentions. The case has been sent to court.”
According to Sargsyan, a theory is now being considered that the murder of Volodya Grigoryan is a continuation of the interpersonal conflicts from February, as he was the brother of the person accused in the Mezavank incident.
The police spokesman also noted that following the February events, the police had repeatedly taken preventive measures regarding individuals with strained relationships: “The police received information about possible new conflicts more than ten times. Individuals from all sides were brought in, and explanatory work was conducted,” he said.
Currently, considering possible further escalations, the police have set up checkpoints and continue to take active measures to prevent further undesirable consequences.
