Pashinyan and Putin Meet in the Kremlin
A meeting took place in the Kremlin between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, and the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. This was reported by the government.
President Vladimir Putin said: “Dear Nikol Vladimirovich, dear friends, good evening, I am very glad to see you. Thank you for accepting our invitation and coming to the international event dedicated to the development of the atomic sector. Armenia has had a functioning nuclear power plant for a long time, and as you personally mentioned during the forum, it provides 30 percent of the country’s electricity. This is a serious indicator. Rosatom is currently working on extending the operation of this NPP, so your presence at the forum is entirely logical.”
He added: “In general, our relations are developing well, with a trade turnover of nearly 11 billion dollars. According to our statistics, we had a trade turnover of 11.7 billion dollars with Armenia in 2024, which is a record figure. Relations are also developing in all other directions. We always have topics to discuss, even though we met recently; nevertheless, we are very happy to see you in Moscow. Once again, welcome.”
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan responded: “Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, thank you for inviting us to the ‘World Atomic Week’ international forum. Today, we learned a lot of new things about atomic technologies, and I appreciate your sharing them. Of course, the role of nuclear energy is continuously increasing, and on a global scale, nuclear energy is now considered environmentally friendly.”
Pashinyan continued: “Nuclear energy is very important for our country as well. You have rightly noted that we are closely cooperating with the Russian Federation and are working on extending the operation of the Nuclear Power Plant until 2036. We are currently working and looking for suitable projects for Armenia—small modular nuclear capabilities—and of course, we have a very active dialogue on this issue with Russia. We are collaborating very effectively with the Rosatom corporation.”
He concluded: “In general, our relations are developing as planned. You highlighted mutual trade turnover, and it’s true that we are seeing a decline this year, which is related to some global processes. However, I believe there is an opportunity to work in this direction so that our mutual trade continues to grow at the rates recorded in 2023-2024. Of course, our agenda for relations is very rich, and we indeed have many issues to discuss. Thank you.”
