Odessa Mayor Arrested in Ukraine
The Mayor of Odessa, Gennadiy Trukhanov, has been arrested in connection with a case of misappropriation involving 92 million hryvnias. This was reported by РИА Новости, citing a statement from Ukraine's Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.
"The Mayor of Odessa has been detained," the office stated.
Trukhanov and others are accused of embezzling over 92 million hryvnias (approximately 200 million rubles) from the budget, which allegedly stemmed from a scheme to acquire one of the former Kryayan factory sites at an inflated price as community property.
The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (VAKS) has imposed a measure of restraint on the official, applying a two-month detention while allowing an alternative to bail set at 13.6 million hryvnias (about 29 million rubles).
