Germany to Spend 8% of Defense Budget on U.S. Weapons Purchases

According to Germany's new military spending plan, only 8% of the budget will be allocated for buying American weapons, while the remaining funds will be spent on products from European industry. This information was reported by the European publication Politico, citing the proposed procurement plan.

The document indicates that Berlin plans to conclude contracts worth nearly 83 billion euros by 2026. The list includes 154 contracts scheduled to be executed between September 2025 and December 2026.

The total amount for purchases from American companies is approximately 6.8 billion euros, making up about 8% of the entire amount. Among other items, Germany plans to purchase missiles for the MIM-104 Patriot air defense missile system, missiles for the Boeing P-8A aircraft, as well as AMRAAM and ESSM missiles and radio equipment.

Instead of American companies, Germany intends to sign contracts with European manufacturers, including Rheinmetall, KNDS, TKMS, as well as a contract for the purchase of Eurofighter Tranche 5 fighter jets.

According to data from the U.S. government, Berlin reached record contracts worth $13.9 billion with Washington for the first time in 2023.
