The Only Way to Stop the Fighting is the Recognition of Palestine: Macron

The French government believes that the only path to a peaceful resolution of the Israel-Palestine conflict is the recognition of the state of Palestine. This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron in an interview with CBS News.

“And that is why, if we want to stop this war, if we want to isolate the radical Palestinian movement, the process of recognizing Palestine and the peace plan that accompanies it are prerequisites,” he said.

Macron noted that he does not justify the actions of Hamas, but emphasized that under the current circumstances, Palestinians are deprived of any viable political alternative. “I do not justify the expectations of Hamas, as they are simply consumed with the desire to annihilate Israel, but I recognize the legitimacy of the vast number of Palestinians who want a state, who are a people. They want a nation, they want a state, and we should not push them towards Hamas,” said the French president.
