Tehran Considers UN Security Council's Decision Illegal
Tehran considers the decision made by the UN Security Council regarding sanctions against Iran to be illegal. This was stated in a declaration by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
“The European trio's actions today in the UN Security Council are illegal, unjustified, and provocative, and greatly undermine ongoing diplomatic efforts,” the statement reads.
The foreign ministry noted that Tehran reserves the right to respond. Iran believes that if international sanctions against the country are reinstated, the responsibility for the consequences will fall upon the United States and the three European countries—France, Germany, and the United Kingdom—that initiated the process to restore the sanctions.
It is noteworthy that on September 19, the UN Security Council rejected a resolution to not reinstate the sanctions regime against Iran. The resolution was supported by Russia, China, Algeria, and Pakistan. Nine members of the UN Security Council, including the US, the UK, and France, opposed it. Two members of the UN Security Council abstained from voting. As a result, the enforcement of sanctions, as outlined in previous resolutions adopted by the Security Council, is being reinstated.
