The Goal is Not to Punish Israel: Kallas
The Head of EU Diplomacy, Josep Borrell, has put forward a proposal to reduce trade with Israel and impose restrictions on Israeli far-right ministers. This was reported by Deutsche Welle.
"I want to be very clear— the aim is not to punish Israel. The goal is to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza. This war must end. The suffering must stop, and all hostages must be released," Kallas stated.
However, according to the publication, it remains uncertain whether the majority of the EU's 27 member states will support the measures proposed by Kallas, especially as the EU has faced criticism for failing to apply sufficient pressure on Israel to end the war in the Palestinian enclave.
The spokesperson for the German government previously stated that Berlin is aware of the proposal but has "not yet formed a final opinion" on the suggested measures.
