VIDEO. Replace the Word 'Reserve' with Another Term: Pashinyan
New historical and cultural reserves named "Yereruik", "Hin Khndzoresk", "Berdkunk Fortress", and "Noratus Crossstones" will be established in Armenia. This decision was made during a session of the Armenian government.
Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan noted that since 2018, six new historical and cultural reserves have been created: "Bjni", Smbataberd, "Dashtadem", "Capital Dvin", "Aghdznk", and "Artashat Capital".
According to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, there has been unprecedented funding from the state budget for the preservation of historical and cultural monuments. "When we talk about monuments, we say they are national values, state wealth. We are right. On the other hand, the question arises: if these are state values, why do they not generate income for the state? Many people are simply unaware of our historical and cultural monuments. I must confess that during regional visits, I often find myself in places with historical and cultural monuments I had never even heard of," Pashinyan noted.
He stated that our task is to preserve and develop the monument and ensure people's connection with those monuments, enabling their preservation for future generations.
Pashinyan mentioned that during a discussion today, he focused on one word: “reserve” regarding monuments. "We label monuments with the word 'reserve' and invite people to visit, but we also say ‘it’s a reserve, be careful.’ What are we prohibiting there? I believe we need to pay attention to these layers of linguistic thinking. I have instructed that we work with the Language Inspectorate to replace the word 'reserve' with another term. For example, if the name of a place is a park, it signifies that people come with axes to cut down trees. Incidentally, most trees are cut down in reserves, leading to numerous criminal cases, which, although resulting in no outcomes, still exist," the Prime Minister stated.
He emphasized that this way, we create a psychological and terminological barrier within the logic of monumentality. Pashinyan mentioned that it won't be a reserve; rather, infrastructure will be created so that people can visit those locations.
At the end, addressing Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, the Prime Minister said that when they find the right word to replace "reserve," appropriate amendments should be made in all decisions.
