Russia Supports New Reform of UN Security Council: Peskov
Russia consistently supports the idea of reforming the UN Security Council and adapting it to the realities of a new era, stated Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian President.
He simultaneously emphasized that reforming the UN Security Council is only possible through consensus, which is currently practically impossible due to disagreements among permanent members.
“Now, when the positions of the permanent members of the Security Council are so diametrically opposed, reaching an apparent consensus is clearly impossible,” said Peskov.
The Russian presidential press secretary confirmed that Russia and its partners advocate for a UN-based system in international relations.
“Both Russia and many countries that share the vision of the world and development prospects, including those with whom we are members of both BRICS and the SCO, support the idea of a UN-based system in global relations, thus paying tribute to the UN and its structure, the structure that currently exists,” Peskov noted.
