Ruben Vardanyan's Motion to Question Pashinyan Rejected

The military court in Baku has rejected Ruben Vardanyan's motion to question Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. In a court session held yesterday, the former Prime Minister of Artsakh requested not only to question Pashinyan but also members of the OSCE Minsk Group and representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Azerbaijan.

According to reports from Aravot, Assistant to the Attorney General of Azerbaijan Vusal Aliyev stated that the Prime Minister of Armenia and other individuals are not subject to questioning, as they are unrelated to the charges, and he demanded that the court leave Vardanyan’s motion without consideration. The victims in the case also insisted on rejecting the motion.

The grounds on which Ruben Vardanyan requested the questioning of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in the Baku court are unknown. Ongoing court sessions, lacking coverage from independent media and international organizations, are reported by the Azerbaijani state agency Azertaj, which does not provide any details on the matter.

In any case, the military court of Baku has decided not to consider Vardanyan's motion. Following the rejection of the motion to question Nikol Pashinyan and the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Vardanyan also insisted that he is not a serviceman and disagrees with the claim that the criminal case against him is being tried in a military court. In response, the assistant to the Attorney General countered that since Vardanyan is also attributed with war crimes, his case is thus examined by the Baku military court, and he demanded that this motion also not be considered.
