Romanian MEP Sues Ursula von der Leyen
Romanian Member of the European Parliament George Piperea has filed a lawsuit against European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in the European Court, accusing her of defamation, according to the European edition of Politico.
“The European lawmaker, who led the failed no-confidence vote against Ursula von der Leyen, is suing her for defamation because, according to him, the European Commission president receives orders from Russia,” the publication reports.
Piperea intends to receive an official public apology from the head of the European Commission. The EU court has not yet made a decision regarding the admissibility of this lawsuit.
It is noteworthy that earlier, members of the European Parliament rejected a discussion about a no-confidence motion against Ursula von der Leyen, which had been initiated by several members due to a scandal regarding the procurement of coronavirus vaccines. Only 175 members supported the proposal, while the necessary minimum vote was 361.
