Discussing the Potential for Cooperation with China on 'Academic City' Projects
The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia and head of the Armenia-China Friendship Group, Hakob Arshakyan, received a delegation led by Su Hui, Vice Chairman of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, on September 17.
During the meeting, the Deputy Speaker addressed the developments in bilateral economic relations over recent years, noting significant growth in trade volumes and emphasizing the vast untapped potential in both the trade-economic and energy sectors. In this context, the importance of the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation was highlighted.
Hakob Arshakyan also discussed the necessity of deepening ties with China in the technological sector. In this regard, the potential for collaboration on the 'Engineering City' and 'Academic City' projects was underscored.
He presented regional challenges to his counterpart, noting that Armenia is committed to establishing peace in the region. According to Arshakyan, the recent meeting in Washington among the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the USA and the subsequent preliminary signing of a peace agreement alongside the issued trilateral declaration represents significant progress in the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process.
However, he emphasized that humanitarian issues remain unresolved, particularly the fact that 23 prisoners continue to be held in Azerbaijani jails.
The 'Peace Intersection' project initiated by the Armenian government was also presented to the guests, which, according to Hakob Arshakyan, will contribute to the region's development.
