Now People Know Why We Are Here: EU Monitoring Mission Head in Armenia
When we came here, we managed the expectations of the population. Everyone thought that we were a defensive force, the protective force of the EU coming to defend Armenia. We clarified that this is not our function. This was stated by Markus Ritter, the head of the European Union Monitoring Mission in Armenia, during his speech at the international conference titled 'Comprehensive Security and Resilience 2025.'
'Now people know why we are here and what we can do. We are an EU monitoring mission operating in a country that remains a member of the CSTO, where there are Russian troops, and there is a conflict with Azerbaijan, which does not want to cooperate with us. This becomes the basis for numerous disinformation campaigns against our mission. It is not always easy to respond to this; we have found certain mechanisms to do so. Our style is not to say bad things about you if you say bad things about us.'
Currently, misinformation from Azerbaijan has quieted down; they have ceased it since May. We still have issues with Russia, but at this moment, the situation seems good,' he added.
