China Will Respond to the US if Tariffs Are Imposed
China will respond to the United States and its allies if tariffs are imposed on oil imports from Russia. This was stated by the official representative of the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lin Zuyan.
"If the legitimate rights and interests of the People's Republic of China are violated, China will certainly take decisive retaliatory measures and steadfastly protect its sovereignty, security, and developmental interests," he said during a press conference.
This comment from Lin Zuyan comes in response to Washington's call to G7 and NATO countries to impose tariffs on Chinese purchases of Russian oil to urge China to participate in resolving the Ukrainian conflict.
He characterized the actions of the White House as an example of threats and economic coercion. The diplomat concluded that China's trade and energy cooperation with all countries, including Russia, is legitimate and should not be criticized.
As reported by KP.RU, on September 12, the US Treasury Department reached out to G7 and EU countries, demanding that high tariffs be imposed on Russian oil imports to China and India. The department indicated that it clarified to its EU allies that if they are serious about ending the conflict in Ukraine, they should join Washington in imposing significant tariffs that would be lifted on the day of the end of hostilities.
