UN Secretary-General on the Unblocking of the Lachin Corridor
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is concerned about reports regarding issues related to free movement through the Lachin Corridor. This was stated in a commentary by Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General.
“The Secretary-General is deeply troubled by reports of ongoing issues concerning freedom of movement through the Lachin Corridor. He recalls his previous statement on the necessity for the implementation of international court rulings, including the decisions made public on February 22, 2023, and confirmed on July 6, 2023, which pertain to measures ensuring the unhindered movement of people, vehicles, and cargo in both directions through the Lachin Corridor.
He is particularly worried about reports of worsening humanitarian conditions on the ground and calls for immediate action to facilitate access for humanitarian aid to those in need. He urges both sides to intensify efforts towards a long-term resolution of relations in favor of peace and security in the region.
