Activities of Businesses Exceeding Noise Permissible Limits to be Suspended

The authorities in Yerevan are planning to utilize special technological measures to combat the exceeding of permissible noise levels as part of a new law on local self-government. This was announced by Mayor Tigran Avinyan in response to a question from Armenia Today.

He clarified that if the permissible noise level is exceeded, the municipality will have the authority to impose fines on violators and suspend their activities. Avinyan reminded that the main powers still lie with the health inspectorate, which has the necessary equipment.

Drivers who install additional sound amplifiers or 'sports' mufflers on their vehicles will be fined. The penalty will amount to ten times the minimum wage.
