New Vote Initiated in European Parliament to Hold Ursula von der Leyen in Contempt
The political groups on the far right and far left in the European Parliament are set to request a new vote regarding the no-confidence motion against European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. This is reported by Politico.
One of the initiatives has been prepared by the group 'Patriots for Europe,' which brings together right and far-right politicians. The group has expressed particular dissatisfaction with the trade agreement von der Leyen signed with the United States.
The left is also planning to file a separate request for a vote, concerned not only about the trade issues but also about the European Commission's inaction regarding the conflict in Gaza.
According to Politico, von der Leyen enjoys the support of the majority of MEPs, making the probability of a successful no-confidence vote quite low. However, centrist coalitions may leverage this opportunity to extract concessions from von der Leyen, similar to what occurred in the last vote related to no-confidence.
It is noteworthy that in July, a vote was held in the European Parliament regarding a no-confidence motion against the President of the European Commission, which saw support from 175 MEPs, while 360 voted against it and 18 abstained.
