People Have Been Deprived of Even Dreaming of a Good Life: Samvel Karapetyan's Message from NSS Detention Center

Businessman Samvel Karapetyan has sent a new message from the NSS detention center:

“Work for everyone. Prosperity for everyone. A typical Armenian scene describing the inaction of those in power. During a working day in a small Armenian town or village, able-bodied and energetic Armenian men standing together are forced to occupy themselves by playing backgammon, filled with despair, recalling their former successes. People are effectively deprived of even the ability to dream of a good life.

The sole responsible party for today’s harsh reality is this government, which has failed to create dignified opportunities for our people, discouraging them and shattering their belief in a prosperous future. I can confidently assert that despite these extremely difficult conditions, we can quickly provide the necessary and specific solutions aimed at the prosperity of our people.

Armenia imports about $4 billion more in goods each year than it exports. This means there is significant potential for building industries in our country, creating profitable investment programs that especially ensure decent work for residents of the regions.

In a very short time, we can attract major international investors with their production capacities and promote local businesses through targeted state support programs, rather than seeking to 'take a slice' or try to 'steal'.

Reforms in the agricultural sector must be real, grounded. There must be so much competition among companies buying farmers' produce that farmers can finally make a profit from selling their products, ensuring the prosperity of their families.

Our agricultural products can serve as good raw materials for the development of the food industry. In a few years, internationally recognized large companies should be represented in Armenia and operate in our country, which will ensure a qualitatively new growth rate and new conditions for the development of tourism.

I am confident that this and several other economic programs will significantly change the quality of life of our people in a very short time, ultimately stopping emigration and ensuring decent work for everyone. We will do it our way.”
