Lavrov on the Agreement Signed Between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington

The agreement between Yerevan and Baku is a sovereign right of our neighbors. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

At the same time, the minister noted that it is essential to monitor how this agreement will be implemented.

According to Lavrov, after the agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the "spirited exclamations" that followed the publication of the document have been replaced by skeptical assessments.

The diplomat added that the main priorities of the Russian Federation in the South Caucasus region are peace and cooperation, which have never changed.

Lavrov indicated that Russia, represented by President Vladimir Putin, played a decisive role in achieving the peace agreement through "numerous late-night phone calls" among the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.

It is noteworthy that on August 8, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a joint declaration consisting of 7 points in Washington, which foresees the creation of a strategic transit road through southern Armenia (Syunik Province), to be called the "Trump Road" (TRIPP), providing Azerbaijan with commercial access to Nakhchivan. The United States is leasing the road for 99 years, with the possibility of extending it for another 99 years.
