Avinyan Comments on Mobile Phone Restrictions in Schools
Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan has conducted a survey regarding mobile phone restrictions in schools. “Dear students, teachers, and parents, the school should be a place where our children are educated and make friends. However, when mobile phones become distracting in the classroom, knowledge, direct interaction, and even play take a back seat.
The global experience is very clear: In England, when schools banned mobile phones, student examination results improved by an average of 6%, and among those with lower academic performance, the improvement was 14%. In Spain, research showed that after the ban on phones, students progressed as much as approximately 0.7 academic years. In Norway, the mobile ban not only improved student grades but also reduced the need for psychological support. In France, after the ban on mobile phones in schools, there was a decrease in bullying and cyberbullying, and children began to play and socialize more during breaks.
Teachers note that classes become more effective, and parents say that children are more relaxed and focused at school. Many students report that they interact with each other more. We also want to create a school environment in Yerevan where children can learn without unnecessary distractions, have genuine friendships, and feel that school is a space for knowledge and trust.
What do you think: will restricting mobile phones in schools help our children learn better and protect them from cyberbullying?
Yes, it is a necessary step. No, freedom should be allowed. There should only be partial restrictions. Write your opinion in the comments,” Tigran Avinyan stated.
