Uncontrollable Situation: Some Council Members May Be Removed by Police, Pambukhchyan Says

During a council meeting, an uncontrollable situation arose. The provocation from the opposition faction was so intense, vibrant, and unmanageable that it drove some of our colleagues to lose their composure. This was mentioned by Armen Pambukhchyan, the First Deputy Mayor of Yerevan, in a conversation with NEWS.am.

In response to the media's question regarding the opposition's claim that the ruling party, ‘My Step’ (CP), is inciting its satellite force, ‘Republic’, to create issues with the opposition, Pambukhchyan stated, “First of all, it is not a satellite force; it is our coalition partner. This is also part of the provocation to continuously label our allied force in this manner. Everyone has seen who started the incident, both in terms of vocabulary and also through certain physical interactions.”

Pambukhchyan answered a question about how the offenders of the incident would be punished. He indicated that it is possible that if a council member does not behave appropriately, they may be removed from the council meeting room with the help of police. It is noteworthy that yesterday, the Yerevan Council convened its second session of the first parliamentary session, during which a dispute arose between Ani Khachatryan, leader of the ‘Republic’ faction, and Sona Aghekyan, a member of the ‘Mother Armenia’ faction.

To interrupt Khachatryan’s speech, Aghekyan called her the “queen of sewage water,” after which Aghekyan splashed water on Khachatryan, leading to a tug-of-war.
