Avinyan Addresses Traffic Congestion Issues in Yerevan

Confidently, the number of vehicles in Yerevan, as well as in the Republic of Armenia, will continue to increase, and we must take additional measures every year to mitigate traffic slowdown factors. Our efforts need to be even greater. This was stated by Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan during a working consultation at the city hall.

“Next year, we need to implement programs in the small center aimed at widening sidewalks and increasing bike lanes. Currently, Île-de-France is carrying out work, and I hope we will receive some information about it today. However, next year we must implement a large-scale program for increasing bike lanes, as well as widening sidewalks. Additionally, we have the issue of increasing new bus lines,” he noted.

According to the mayor, the new public transport system is convenient for citizens, and we must continue to enhance that convenience. “As you can see, the average number of traffic congestions compared to the same period last year, after creating this many new bus lines, is lower,” he added.

“In many places, bus lanes have been established, allowing buses to move faster, and simultaneously, significant solutions have been found to reduce the average number of traffic congestions. This process should not be slowed down; I am confident that alongside increasing bus routes, we will find solutions for vehicles as well. But let me remind you again – our primary issue is not the cars; our primary issue is the pedestrian, followed by the bicycle, then the bus and trolleybus, and only after that, the vehicle,” Avinyan stated.
