Russia's Statements are Surprising and Confusing: Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry
The statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation regarding the insurance payments for the crash of an airplane belonging to Azerbaijani Airlines (AZAL) is surprising and confusing for the public. This was stated by Aykhan Hacızadə, the head of the press service division of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
Hacızadə emphasized that the issues of insurance payments by the Russian-registered insurance company to AZAL and its passengers are entirely separate from Azerbaijan's demand for compensation from the Russian government for the aircraft's destruction. 'The process of making these insurance payments has been carried out by that company for the past six months. Overall, these payments are provided in accordance with the obligations arising from AZAL's insurance contract, in the scope of the aircraft and passenger insurance by the company. As for the question of payment execution by the Russian insurance company, it should be noted that aircraft insurance is usually carried out through relevant international insurance companies. Given that there are no international insurance companies operating in Russia, AZAL's aircraft insurance has been conducted through a Russian company. Thus, attempts to equate the insurance payments with the compensation demanded by Azerbaijan from the Russian government are erroneous,' stated Aykhan Hacızadə, the head of the press service division of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
