Responsibility for Evading Military Drills is Tightened: Harutyun Sargsyan

The article discusses the clarification of the forms of evasion in the article establishing criminal liability for avoiding military drills. The responsibility for evading military drills is tightened in conjunction with a number of unlawful circumstances. The powers of the Military Police are clarified not only in preventing and disrupting criminal activities but also in detecting and solving them, as they are authorized to assist military registration offices in the process of citizens' military registration, mandatory or conscription, and the organization of reserve preparation events.

During the meeting of the Permanent Commission on Defense and Security of the National Assembly, proposed amendments to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia and the Law on Military Police were discussed in the first reading. The issue was presented by Harutyun Sargsyan, Deputy Minister of Defense of Armenia.

The Military Police is authorized to ensure the transfer or escort of detained or arrested servicemen to specified locations based on a written request from bodies conducting criminal proceedings in order to participate in necessary investigative and procedural actions.

During the Q&A session, the organization of military drills, the improvement of the process, notification methods for citizens, and the possibilities for electronic notification in military registration offices were discussed. Emphasizing the importance of conducting 25-day military drills, Gegham Manukyan, a member of the "Armenia" faction, spoke about the existing problems in this process and the importance of finding solutions. The question received a positive conclusion from the commission.
