Construction Grows in Armenia, Mining Decreases
In July, mining in Armenia slightly slowed down. This is confirmed by the data from the Republic's Statistical Committee for January to July. Sputnik reports on this.
While from March to June, there was an increase in extraction volumes compared to the same months in 2024, July saw a recorded decrease of 8.7%. A similar decrease (4.8%) occurred in the extraction of non-metallic mineral resources (building materials and construction raw materials).
In comparison to 2024, the production of cement and other non-metallic construction materials has also decreased (by more than 15%). This is peculiar, as construction volumes in the republic continue to grow; residential building volumes increased by 12.5% for January to July 2025.
All of this raises suspicions about shadow sales. In July (as well as overall for January to July), there has been a continued increase in tobacco production and a decrease in alcohol. For January to July, tobacco growth amounted to 61.8%, while alcohol experienced a decline of 14.4%. The production volumes of clothing remained approximately at the same level as last year.
The metallurgy sector continues to show a significant decline (according to January to July results, by a factor of 3.5). This is related to the reduction of rough processing for gold re-export, but this product group also includes aluminum foil, ferromolybdenum, and reinforcing bars (all of which are produced in substantial volumes in Armenia). The separate dynamics of their production have not yet been published.
