Canada No Longer Reliant on Washington
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has stated that Ottawa can no longer rely on Washington as a dependable trading partner, citing changes in U.S. tariffs and trade policy. Carney described the current transformations in global trade as a "fracture, not a transition."
"Now, to enter the world's largest economy, countries literally have to buy their way in through investments and unilateral shifts in their trade policies. This is happening against a backdrop of global disruptions, geopolitical shifts, a technological revolution, and the necessity of transitioning to a 'green' economy," the Prime Minister said.
He emphasized that the impact of these measures is already being felt: workers are losing their jobs, supply chains built over decades are collapsing, companies are forced to change their sources of raw materials, and uncertainty is hindering investments and slowing economic growth.
