Baku Announces Information Campaign Against Azerbaijan by Russia
The Azerbaijan Milli Mejlis Committee on External Interventions and Hybrid Threats has issued a statement regarding the launch of a large-scale information campaign against the country from the territory of the Russian Federation. This was reported by Azerbaijani media.
According to the President of Azerbaijan, a major information campaign against the country began immediately after the broadcast of an interview given to Saudi Arabia's Al-Arabiya television channel on August 27. "During monitoring, it was revealed that the President of Azerbaijan's response to the host's question about the 'Zangezur Corridor' - based on historical facts - was taken out of context and presented to the Russian audience in a distorted or falsified manner. The campaign aimed at inciting anti-Azerbaijani propaganda in Russian society is carried out through television channels, news websites, social media platforms, and certain influential radical individuals," the statement said.
Many platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and X, which are banned and restricted in Russia, were also widely used during the campaign, as well as social media pages and bots created in the names of citizens from other countries. Another notable aspect of the campaign is the selection of segments of Azerbaijani social networks as a targeting advertising tool, incorporating ideas that threaten the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country.
It should also be noted that such hate campaigns have no effect on public opinion in Azerbaijan. Such activities only incite Russian society based on false facts and lead to unwarranted enmity with neighboring states. The roots of the "Russo-phobia" syndrome that concerns Russia should be sought in the activities of 'Z' bloggers.
The Committee on External Interventions and Hybrid Threats is closely monitoring these unfriendly actions directed against our state in cooperation with relevant state bodies and continues to take appropriate preventive measures,” the statement concludes.
