Diplomatic Solution Still Possible: Kalas on Iran's Nuclear Program

The diplomatic solution to Iran's nuclear issue is still possible, and the European Union is ready to participate in it. This was stated by the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, following a meeting with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the IAEA.

Earlier today, the Deputy Head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami, announced that Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the IAEA plan to hold a third round of negotiations, despite Grossi being the 'main issue' in resuming cooperation between the agency and Tehran.

'For Iran, it is extremely important to ensure transparency and comprehensive cooperation with the IAEA. The diplomatic avenues for resolving Iran's nuclear issue remain open, and the EU is ready to contribute to this. Today, I met with Rafael Grossi and reaffirmed my full support for his work,' Kallas noted on social media.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed a decree on July 2 to implement a law suspending cooperation with the IAEA. Following the issuance of the decree, the agency's inspectors were expelled from the country. Iran’s Foreign Minister Araghchi stated that despite the country’s decision to suspend cooperation with the IAEA, avenues for cooperation are not closed.

Conditions for restoring cooperation have been identified, including ensuring the safety of Iran’s nuclear facilities and atomic scientists. The cessation of cooperation is linked to criticism directed at the IAEA and Grossi concerning inaction amid U.S. and Israeli strikes on nuclear facilities in Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz.
