It Contains Two Pieces of News: Good and Bad. Zurabyan on Armenian-American Memorandums

Today, three weeks after the signing of the Armenian-American memorandums on August 8, the transparent government of Armenia finally published them under the pressure of our demands, dispelling the concerns that they may contain provisions regarding the regulation of the 'Zangezur Corridor' that contradict our sovereignty and territorial integrity. This was stated by the Vice President of the Hanrapetutyun Party Levon Zurabyan on his Facebook page.

“Questions remain, however: 1. Why did U.S. President Donald Trump insist during the signing ceremony that Armenia had agreed to provide Azerbaijan with a transit corridor connecting to Nakhchivan for 99 years? This claim is also echoed by prominent Western media. 2. Are these claims based on additional written documents kept secret or any preliminary verbal agreements? 3. Why were these documents not published on the day of signing?

If the published documents exhaust the scope of the agreements reached, it includes two pieces of news, good and bad: The good part, in the case of the said 'if', is that the Washington memorandums have not yet delivered any irreversible blow to our sovereignty and territorial integrity. The bad part, especially for Pashinyan's government, is that the signed documents did not deserve the trumpet-blowing they were subjected to by Armenia. It turns out that the only purpose of these non-binding documents was merely to provide Pashinyan with an illusory document regarding supposed peace before the elections,” Zurabyan wrote.
