Classes in Yerevan Schools to Start at 08:15 AM from September 1
Starting from September 1, 2025, classes in all public schools in Yerevan will begin at 08:15 AM. This announcement was made yesterday by the spokesperson for the Yerevan City Hall, Hayk Kostanyan.
“One of the goals of this initiative is to ensure that children do not arrive late to school due to traffic jams, as well as to ease morning traffic somewhat,” Kostanyan stated.
During a meeting of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth, and Sports of the National Assembly, Minister of Education and Science Zhanna Andreasyan clarified that this decision pertains exclusively to schools in Yerevan.
“Observant citizens will notice that the announcement was first disseminated by the Yerevan City Hall,” the Minister noted.
“I don’t think this is a significant change in the educational process, but it can greatly improve the management of traffic flows and prevent our children from getting caught in traffic jams on their way to school,” she added, reiterating that classes in Yerevan schools will start at 08:15 on Monday.
Zhanna Andreasyan also mentioned that schools in the provinces have been operating under a different schedule than those in Yerevan. “While classes in Yerevan started at 08:30, schools in the provinces operate starting from 09:00. This is not random, as various starting times were established years ago for different educational levels in Yerevan, aimed at managing traffic flows more effectively,” she explained. “In universities, classes typically begin at 09:30, allowing people to leave home at staggered times and to arrive at their educational institutions and workplaces under more comfortable conditions. Universities start their educational process later due to students coming from the provinces, so as not to impose additional inconveniences on these students.”
