No History Textbooks for Armenian Students, Only Folders Provided
Starting this September, there will be no "History of Armenia" textbooks for 10th and 11th graders in schools. Instead, students will receive "folders." This information was reported by the "Zhoghovurd" newspaper.
Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan stated that textbooks for senior grades "should still be available," while only three days remain until the start of the academic year. The submitted books in the announced competitions did not meet the standards.
There will also be no textbooks for the new subject of Natural Sciences for 11th grade. It appears that the minister, in order to hide her own shortcomings, has created a subject for which there is no textbook available for teaching while brusquely attacking journalists to avoid questions. To say it is ridiculous would be an understatement.
The minister expressed hope that perhaps textbooks for these three subjects will be available by the next semester. It is worth noting that last year the minister also spoke in hopes of "perhaps having them," and students spent months attending school without books.
As for what a folder is, "The educational folder consists of collections of necessary materials related to each theme in the subject, needed to study that theme. These can be electronic or paper. Each school will decide how to implement this," Andreasyan noted.
The minister's justification is that the failures and mistakes arose due to the absence of substantive changes in textbooks for the past 15 years after the creation of 220 new books.
