US Hopes to End Ukraine Conflict by Year’s End: Whitcoff
The US authorities hope to reach a resolution to the Ukrainian conflict by the end of this year. This was stated by US Special Envoy Steve Whitcoff.
“Russia, Ukraine, Iran, Israel, Hamas - we have had meetings throughout the week on these three conflicts. We hope to resolve them by the end of this year,” he said during a US administration meeting led by President Donald Trump at the White House.
It is noteworthy that negotiations between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump took place on August 15 in Alaska and lasted about three hours. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Presidential Assistant Yuri Ushakov participated from the Russian side. From the US, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Representative Stephen Whitcoff were present.
After the negotiations, Putin stated that the situation around Ukraine had become one of the central topics of discussion in Alaska and noted that a good working relationship and trust had been established with Trump. He emphasized that moving in this direction could lead to an end to the conflict in Ukraine. In turn, Trump remarked that there are still no agreements with Russia on several points concerning Ukraine, but both sides have a “good chance” of reaching an agreement.
