Garnik Danielyan on the Candidacy of Mikael Sirabyan for Prime Minister

Members of the Armenian National Assembly's 'Armenia' faction have not discussed the nomination of Mikael Sirabyan for the position of Prime Minister or the process of vote of no-confidence against Nikol Pashinyan, says Garnik Danielyan, a member of the faction, in an interview with Factinfo.

It is noteworthy that today, press reports have circulated about the intent of the 'Armenia' faction to initiate a vote of no-confidence against Nikol Pashinyan and to nominate Mikael Sirabyan as their candidate for Prime Minister. According to the reports, faction members visited the NSS isolation ward the day before to meet with Sirabyan in attempts to persuade him to become their candidate for Prime Minister.

“There is no such thing. We have not discussed such matters. We visited Mikael Sirabyan days ago to check on his well-being and talk to him. We also made a statement informing the public about that meeting. That is all that happened, nothing more. If such a matter were discussed, we would definitely inform you about it. We are actively involved in the judicial processes concerning both Mikael Sirabyan and Bagrat Sirabyan, as well as other political prisoners, whose visits are open; we also visit them, trying to provide moral support and solidarity to our compatriots and friends who are unlawfully deprived of their freedom, addressing daily issues, and, in some cases, addressing health problems. This is not an extraordinary event; it is our routine work that we do every day,” stated Danielyan.

When asked how he explains the spread of such news and what could lead to the assumption that such a question would arise, Danielyan responded, noting that they could have clarified and confirmed that there was no discussion of such a matter.

“In due time, there was an announcement, Mikael Sirabyan expressed his position, and that issue is no longer being raised,” added Danielyan.

It is worth mentioning that on June 27, the day of Mikael Sirabyan's arrest, the 'Armenia' faction announced that they supported Mikael Sirabyan's candidacy for Prime Minister. On the same day, the candidacy was proposed by Hovik Agazaryan and Hakob Aslanyan. Mikael Sirabyan rejected the proposal.
