US Ambassador Summoned by French Foreign Ministry

The US ambassador to France has been summoned by the French Foreign Ministry after President Emmanuel Macron was criticized for not taking sufficient effective measures against the rise of anti-Semitism. The French Foreign Ministry described the ambassador's comments as "unacceptable." The ambassador, Charles Kushner, is of Jewish descent, and his son, Jared Kushner, is married to Ivanka Trump, daughter of former President Donald Trump.

He addressed Macron in an open letter expressing his concerns about the increase in anti-Semitism in France and the "lack of adequate measures by the government to combat it." Referencing earlier criticisms from Israel towards France, he noted that there has been a rise in hatred against Jews in the country since the start of the Gaza conflict.

In a letter published in The Wall Street Journal, Kushner urged President Macron to soften his criticism of Israel, presenting examples of anti-Semitism that he claims have "long cast a shadow over French society." The French Foreign Ministry described the ambassador's actions as a violation of the 1961 Vienna Convention. "The ambassador's accusations are unacceptable," stated a representative of the French Foreign Ministry.
