China Ready to Send Peacekeepers to Ukraine
China is ready to send its peacekeepers to Ukraine, but Europe remains cautious. This was reported by Welt am Sonntag.
Citing diplomats close to the Chinese government, the publication notes that Beijing will only agree to participate if the mission is deployed under a UN mandate.
Such statements have provoked mixed reactions in Brussels. On one hand, China's involvement could accelerate the decision to deploy international forces to oversee the peace process. However, concerns also exist.
“There is a risk that China is primarily looking to conduct reconnaissance within Ukrainian territory and, if the conflict escalates, will adopt a pro-Russian rather than a neutral stance,” said a senior EU diplomat familiar with the current discussions.
