Court Overturns Donald Trump's $500 Million Fine
The New York appellate court has overturned the nearly $500 million fine imposed on former U.S. President Donald Trump and his family business in a civil fraud case. This was reported by Deutsche Welle.
"At the same time, allegations regarding the falsification of documents provided by Trump’s company to banks and insurance companies have not been dismissed," the report states.
The civil lawsuit against the former state leader and his three adult children—Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Ivanka Trump—was filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James in September 2022. The case against Ivanka Trump was later dismissed.
The case pertains to the valuation of Trump’s organization assets, which the prosecutors claim were deliberately inflated to obtain or maintain favorable loans and insurance contracts. Donald Trump himself has characterized the case as politically motivated and called for its dismissal following his victory in the presidential elections in November 2024.
